Zelina Vega is living proof that hard work and self-discipline make dreams come true. The professional wrestler of Puerto Rican descent has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry through her dedication. She demonstrates that despite experiencing difficulties and obstacles, you can always come out on top. Today, she is a WWE superstar with a clear goal: to win the Women’s Championship of the famous media and entertainment company.
Thea Megan Trinidad Büdgen, Zelina’s real name, was born in New York in December 1990. Her father, Michael Trinidad, instilled his passion for professional wrestling in her during her childhood. She has fond memories of growing up watching wrestling on television alongside him and her younger brother, Timothy. Figures like Rey Mysterio and Lita inspired her from a young age. However, at age 10, she lost her father, who tragically passed away in the September 11, 2001 attacks. Despite this devastating loss, Zelina remained resilient, finding solace in the enduring presence of her beloved father.
“I feel like my whole life has been a struggle, since I started everything” Zelina confessed in an interview with HOLA! USA, recalling the long journeys she would make just to train during the weekends.
Her perseverance eventually paid off. In 2010, she debuted in Women Superstars Uncensored, and while victory didn’t come instantly, it didn’t take long for her first win. Under the name Rosita, in 2011, she won the TNA Knockout Tag Team Championship alongside Canadian Sarita, becoming the youngest champion at just 20 years old.
In 2017, this Latina Powerhouse signed a deal with WWE, a pivotal moment in her career when she took on the persona of Zelina Vega. One year later, she was drafted as part of the WWE Superstar Shake-up, and in July of the same year, she won her first match, earning the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships title. This was Zelina’s first championship within WWE.
In 2021, fans began calling her ‘Queen Zelina’ following her victory in the Queen’s Crown tournament. A year later, she won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship alongside Carmella. With these accomplishments under her belt, Thea remains steadfast in pursuing the women’s championship, with the ambition to honor her late father by bringing the title to the September 11 memorial, as she shared with HOLA! USA.
