The last moments of the 2017 Academy Awards were the most talked about of the evening. As Warren Beatty was joined by Faye Dunaway on stage, the pair named La La Land as the winner of the Best Picture Award before correcting themselves and announcing the actual winner as... Moonlight! The mix-up occurred after the cast and crew of La La Land delivered their acceptance speech on stage. The 2014 Oscars host Ellen DeGeneres broke a world record when she gathered some of Hollywood's finest for a selfie. When Jennifer Lawrence won the 2013 Oscar for Best Actress for her part in Silver Linings Playbook, it wasn't her Christian Dior gown or her acceptance speech that stole the show, but her ever-so-graceful fall on her way up to the stage. "This moment is so much bigger than me," said Halle Berry when she became the first African-American woman since 1940 to win an Oscar. Continuing her moving speech for her Best Actress scoop for her role in Monster's Ball in 2002, she said: "This moment is for Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne, Diahann Carroll. It's for the women that stand beside me – Jada Pinkett, Angela Bassett – and it's for every nameless, faceless woman of color that now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened." The last thing Halle Berry expected when she announced the Best Actor winner at the 2003 Academy Awards was a long kiss from The Pianist star Adrien Brody. In 2017, on Watch What Happens Live, Halle was asked about the shocking moment. Never was an acceptance speech more heartwarming than when best friends Ben Affleck and Matt Damon took center stage at the 70th Academy Awards for the first time. Accepting the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting, Ben, who together with Matt had written and starred in the film, said: "We're just really two young guys who were fortunate enough to be involved with a lot of great people." There couldn´t have been many dry eyes in the house when Gwyneth Paltrow took to the stage to accept an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Shakespeare in Love during the 71st Academy Awards. The young actor's tragic death shook the world, so it was fitting that Hollywood pay tribute to Heath Ledger with a posthumous Oscar for his show-stealing performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight. His mother, father and sister took to the stage at the 81st Annual Academy Awards to accept the award for Best Supporting Actor on his behalf. Heath's sister Kate concluded the speech: "Heath, we both knew what you had created in the Joker was extraordinarily special and had even talked about being here on this very day. We really wish you were, but we proudly accept this award on behalf of your beautiful [daughter] Matilda. Thank you."
