Royals working from home: Inside their remote setups

04/07/2020 22:28 CEST Updated on April 8, 2020 5:47 UTC By Alexandra Hurtado

The  coronavirus  pandemic has forced a number of individuals around the world to stay at home—and the royals are no exception. With several countries issuing lockdowns and requiring residents to self-quarantine in order to combat the outbreak, many royals from  Queen Elizabeth  and  Queen Letizia  to  Kate Middleton  and  Crown Princess Mette-Marit  have resorted to working from home. While these days, many of us might opt for pajamas and athleisure wear, these royals are showing off their cozy, yet professional work from home style and workstations. Scroll through for a look at how the royals are working from the comfort of their home and how it compares to your own setup...

As president of the Royal Voluntary Service, Camilla got involved with the NHS Volunteer Responder program from her Scottish home, Birkhall, on April 7. The Duchess, who looked comfortable and spring-ready in a pink jumper, undertook a “check-in and chat” on the phone with an 85-year-old named Doris, who has spent the last two weeks self-isolating.

Sporting a navy suit, Prince William spoke on the phone at Kensington Palace with Paul Farmer, who is the CEO of the mental health charity Mind. The palace noted, “Self-isolation and social distancing can pose huge challenges to our mental health — in recent weeks The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been in regular contact with organisations and patronages to understand the issues they are facing during this difficult time.”

Kensington Palace gave royal fans a close look at Kate Middleton’s desk at her London residence. As the Duchess, wearing a pink pantsuit by Marks & Spencer, conversed with the CEO of her patronage Place2Be, a collection of Penguin classic novels designed by Coralie Bickford-Smith were seen at her workstation.

Amid the pandemic, the Grand Duchess, pictured with her tablet, is working from her office at Berg Castle in central Luxembourg. The Grand Ducal Court of Luxembourg noted on April 1 that Maria Teresa is in “contact with the associations where she holds the presidency or patronage,” adding, “In this difficult time, where every thought, every word and every kind gesture is important, the Grand Duchess, with her support of the many who work daily with great commitment on the ground.⁣”

Like his wife, the Grand Duke is working from Berg Castle and is in “daily contact with all the living forces of the nation mobilized in the fight against COVID-19.” Alongside the photo, the Grand Ducal Court of Luxembourg wrote: “It is a question of being informed in real time as of encouraging or expressing the deep recognition of our united population. The role of everyone, whether on the front line, on the second line or simply by observing the strict rules of confinement is essential.” Henri appeared cozy at home sporting a pullover sweater while he spoke on his cell.

The Spanish monarchs participated in a video conference checking on the “maintenance of the supply chain in the Port of Valencia.” The King and Queen spoke with Aurelio Martínez, president of the Valencia Port Authority, on April 7. The ever-stylish Letizia opted for a black blazer and dusty blue tee for the video session. Meanwhile, Felipe wore a suit, white shirt and blue tie.

While the Queen is self-isolating at Windsor Castle, Her Majesty continued to hold her weekly audience with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson by telephone on March 25. The photo shared by Buckingham Palace gave a rare inside look at the monarch’s Windsor residence, which features decor like corgi figurines and horse statuettes. The Queen was pictured dressed down in a cardigan and button-down shirt as she chatted on her “old fashioned phone,” as one royal watcher dubbed it.

The Norwegian royals were all smiles at their official residence, Skaugum, where they participated in a video session on April 2 with the nonprofit organization Church City Mission to thank them for their work during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Crown Prince couple made a makeshift laptop stand for their MacBook out of stacked books. The pair kept it casual for the call with Mette-Marit wearing a black turtleneck and Haakon in a blue shirt and blazer.
