Jamie Margolin

Jamie Margolin is part of a generation of young activists who are hard at work trying to make the world a better place.

Jamie Margolin is a part of a generation of young activists that are slowly changing the world and making it a better place. As a generation of kids who’ve grown up in the midst of global warming, political turmoil and social media coverage that makes it all inescapable, Jamie says that she’s an activist because she had no other choice.

Born in 2001, Jamie identifies as Jewish, Latinx and, like much of her generation, queer. When she was 15 years old she founded the organization Zero Hour, a youth-led movement revolving around climate change and environmental awareness. Alongside some of her peers, she founded the organization after being ignored by the adults and policymakers who are responsible for the future of the planet and her generation. Zero Hour wants to teach and guide young activists who want to take concrete action and help curb climate change.

Jamie’s writing on global warming and activism has been published in the Huffington Post and CNN, She was selected as one of People Magazine’s 25 Women Who Are Changing the World and Vogue’s 21 under 21 class of 2018. She’s also spoken up about sexual abuse and sexual harassment, issues that a lot of people have trouble coming clean with, especially young women.

Despite all of the seriousness and the fact that Mangolin is constantly battling the government to make the world a liveable and fairer place, she also has some fun projects that she tackles. She at times makes appearances in podcasts like Lavender You, where she discussed the importance of queer characters in media with artists involved in the industry.

Margolin is set to graduate from NYU in 2024, where she’s studying film. In the meantime, I’m sure we’ll be hearing about her and her many, many accomplishments.
