Brad Pitt is mourning the loss of two of his dearest friends. On May 17, Brad’s good friend and rocker, Chris Cornell was found dead in his hotel room at the MGM Grand Casino in Detroit. Officials later confirmed that the 52-year-old hung himself following his concert. The previous weekend, the 53-year-old lost close pal Brad Grey, who was the former chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, to cancer at the age of 59. A source told E! News that Brad is “devastated and in shock,” adding: “He is trying to process the loss of two great friends. This has hit him very hard. With Brad Grey, Brad was one of the few people who knew he was sick.”

The father-of-six and Chris, who was the lead vocalist in the bands Soundgarden and Audioslave, had a long standing friendship. In 2004, Brad expressed his admiration for Chris during an interview with Cinema Confidential saying, “I’m a big Chris Cornell addict, anything he does.” Since then, The War Machine star attended one of the Fell on Black Days singer’s concerts at L.A.’s Wiltern Theatre in 2009. In 2010, Brad took his daughter Zahara to Chris’ daughter Toni’s sixth birthday party at an American Girl store.

Chris and Brad were reunited in January 2017 during the ROCK4EB event in Malibu. The actor and the musician took the stage with Sting to perform The Police’s hit Every Breath You Take and Soundgarden’s Blake Hole Sun. Before the late musician took the stage, Brad introduced him to the audience saying, “I get to introduce a very, very good friend of mine and someone I’ve know for quite a while and I’m a huge fan of, Mr. Chris Cornell.” Later that evening Chris took to his Instagram to post a picture next to Brad and Sting that read, “Had an amazing night performing for #Rock4EB with @officialsting & #bradpitt."
