It may have been a night of fashion, but Ryan Reynolds took time to share his appreciation for wife Blake Lively during the 2017 Met Gala. On Monday, May 1 the Life star spoke lovingly about his wife to the Humans of New York blog. “She always responds with empathy,” he told photographer Brandon Stanton in part. “She meets anger with empathy. She meets hate with empathy. She’ll take time to imagine what happened to a person when they were five or six years old. And she’s made me a more empathetic person.” In the photo, Ryan and Blake share a sweet embrace inside of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The 29-year-old actress stunned in an Atelier Versace dress as she stood next to Ryan, 40, who donned a coordinating blue suit and bowtie. Blake’s husband took the time to share how his wife was there for him after his father passed away from Parkinson’s disease in 2015. “I had a very fractured relationship with my father,” he continued. “Before he died, she made me remember things I didn’t want to remember. She made me remember the good times.” The Hollywood pair were married in 2012, and share daughters, James, two, and seven-month-old Ines. During an interview with Variety magazine, the actor credited the mother of his children for helping him cope with the anxiety that came with creating his superhero film Deadpool. "The expectations [of starring in Deadpool] were eating me alive," he said during the interview in January. "Blake helped me through that. I'm lucky to have her around just to keep me sane."

Blake isn't the only one receiving praise. Last week, Ryan was honored at the Time 100 Gala in New York City. During the star-studded event, the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants actress took to her Instagram to celebrate her man in a way that her comedic husband would appreciate. “Congratulations to the most influential person in my life,” the photo of Ryan standing in front of John Legend read. “The best man I know…you deserve this @time 100 honor…If only my husband wasn’t blocking you in the shot. I’m so sorry @johnlegend.”
