Bikini season is right around the corner and while celebrities like Gisele Bunchen and Kate Hudson are almost always swimsuit ready, the rest of us have to work off those winter pounds. But where do you start?
Known for her incredibly toned body and shaping many others, celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels lets HELLO! in on tips for getting ready for the summer in no time. Balancing staying fit while being a mom of two, Jillian, 41, says that anyone can have a body worth flaunting at the beach as long as you are willing to work at it.
HELLO!: You run a business, have young kids and still look incredible! How do you balance being a mom, working and staying fit?
Jillian Michaels: Having little ones running around certainly makes having a full time job and staying fit more challenging. It’s good to have several strategies to employ in order to get your workout in. You can be physical with your kids. Do things like swimming, playing tag, kicking the ball around the yard, pillow fights, etc. These things work up a sweat…trust me.
H!: Do you need help to maintain this?
JM: Trade off with your significant other if you have one. One night you go for a workout while the partner watches the kids and the next night you reciprocate and they go work out. Ask a family member to babysit once a week so you can get a workout in. Do workout DVDs at home so you can exercise for 30 minutes while the kids play. Bottom line: it’s not easy, but if you can get at least four solid 30-minute workouts in a week, while simultaneously watching what you eat, it will make a huge difference.
H!: Isn't your new BODYSHRED program all about quick and effective workouts?
JM: It's is a fast and fun group exercise class offered all over the U.S that is comprised of four circuits utilizing what I like to call my “3-2-1” interval format approach: 3 minutes of strength with 2 minutes of cardio and 1 minute of core work for 30 minutes of calorie crushing, fat shedding, muscle toning exercise. It’s about working out smarter, not necessarily harder.
H!: What if you're in a rush to get ready for the summer? What are your go to tips?
JM: Bikini body shape means something different to everyone, but I can guarantee that you at least want to feel good about your physique before you reveal a lot of skin. The first step to success is to establish the reasons why you want to change your body. Whatever the reason, use it as motivation to maintain your healthy routine – you’ll find it will really motivate you!
