Meghan Markle seems to be assimilating to life in the UK very well — so much so that she appears to have picked up an English accent à la Madonna. The Queen of Pop famously adopted a faux accent in the early 2000s and now the Internet believes the new Duchess of Sussex has followed suit. A video of the former American actress conversing with well-wishers during her June trip to Cheshire has surfaced leading many to wonder if the Suits alum is losing her American accent.
“I just watched a video that showed Meghan Markle starting to have a british accent and I’m so here for it you have no idea,” one fan tweeted, while another wrote, “meghan markle is so beautiful +++ she’s losing her american accent what.”
However there were some skeptics like one Twitter user who tweeted, “Meghan Markle is a lil phony for that fake British accent coming through,” adding, “But if I became British royalty you’d see me day 2 saying pip pip cheerio.”

Whether the American-born Duchess is losing her accent or not remains to be seen. Following her and Harry's engagement announcement last November, it was revealed that Meghan would become a UK citizen. At the time, a spokesperson for the royal family said it was “too early to say” if the Hollywood actress would retain her American citizenship after becoming an British citizen.
Prince Harry's communication's secretary Jason Knauf said that Meghan would be "compliant with immigration requirements at all times." He added, "I can also say she intends to become a UK citizen and will go through the process of that, which some of you may know takes a number of years.”
