Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik of Denmark’s happily ever after wasn’t the simplest of royal love stories. Prior to his death on February 13, 2018, the French-born Prince Consort, made headlines for bold comments against his wife, accusing her of disrespect for not giving him the title of “King.”
"If she wants to bury me with her, she must make me a king consort,” Henrik, who suffered from dementia told Danish magazine Se og Hør. in 2017. “My wife hasn’t shown me the respect an ordinary wife should show her spouse.” The couple tied the knot in 1967 after meeting in London and welcomed two sons shortly after — Crown Prince Frederik, 49, and Prince Joachim, 48.
