After proudly watching her daughter Princess Leonor receive the prestigious Order of the Golden Fleece and celebrating her husband King Felipe’s 50th birthday earlier this week, Queen Letizia of Spain stepped out on Thursday, February 1, to attend a forum hosted by the Spanish Association Against Cancer, where she made an unexpected confession.

"Five weeks ago a person that I love very much was diagnosed with a complicated cancer. It is not the first time in my personal field, but it is the most recent case,” the mom-of-two said in her speech at the event — which was organized to mark World Cancer Day (February 4).

Her Majesty admitted that she has struggled with how to approach her loved one’s illness. She revealed, “Sometimes I say, 'Do I call her or do not call her?' Would it be better to go to the movies before the new cycle of chemotherapy or would it be better to leave it alone? That discomfort of not knowing what to do.”
“I think that after this day all of us here, the people who follow us in the networks and all the journalists who are going to transfer the important ideas of what has been said here, I think we will all come up with an evolved and different idea of what a diagnosis of cancer means,” Letizia added. “We are leaving with full awareness of the impact of cancer on families.”

Letizia looked effortlessly chic for the outing wearing a BOSS blouse, a navy Carolina Herrera skirt and a matching coat draped over her shoulders. The King’s wife is the honorary president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer. Last year, the 45-year-old royal traveled to Mexico for the World Cancer Leaders Summit during which she delivered a passionate speech.
