Kate Middleton and the other European Princesses love this interior design trend

Kate Middleton and her fellow European royals don’t just have a similar eye for style, but also for interior design. The Duchess of Cambridge and the Crown Princesses of Norway, Sweden and Denmark all appear to have a similar taste when it comes to the focal point of their living rooms, a cream sofa. Official photos released from the royal residences show that Kate, Crown Princess Victoria, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Crown Princess Mary have each selected similar couches to take pride of place in their living rooms – with each royal leading lady adding her own flair around the furniture piece.

Prince William and Kate gave royal watchers a peek inside of their home at Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace, when they welcomed former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle for dinner in 2016. The couple, who are expecting their third child, share the home with their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. Instead of worrying about potential stains and damage that young kids can cause, they have selected a pale cream sofa, with luxe velvet and floral cushions for their home.

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden opted for a similar hue for their own seating at Haga Palace in Stockholm, with velvet cushions in complementing grey tones adding the finishing touches. While undeniably opulent, modern Scandinavian influences are also evident in the room, with a marble coffee table and fireplace at the center.

Royal fans were also given a rare glimpse inside of Norway's royal palace during Prince William and Kate's royal tour of Sweden and Norway. The sitting room is very different in style to both Haga and Kensington Palaces, but again the Duke and Duchess sat on neutral sofas opposite their hosts, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Crown Prince Haakon. Meanwhile, Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark's seats perfectly complement their colorful living room, which is painted a chic shade of cornflower blue and has opulent gold accents.

Their choice in sofas is not the only thing the European royals' sitting rooms have in common; each royal also has a unique table at the center of the room. While William and Kate have opted for an embroidered upholstered coffee table, Crown Princess Victoria has a contemporary marble design and Crown Princess Mette-Marit selected a floral design, with fabric draped around the edges and numerous coffee table books and candles placed on top.
