Paulina Porizkova bares all at 52 for SI Swim: 'I'm not ashamed of my body'

Paulina Porizkova is no stranger to modeling in the iconic Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. The Czech Republic-born model made her debut in its pages at 18 and then posed a year later in 1985. Now at 52, Paulina is back in the 2018 issue and baring it all. Despite feeling hesitant at first about returning and posing naked, she changed her mind once she learned about the empowering message behind the shoot. “I wanted to say that I’m not ashamed of my body and you shouldn’t be ashamed of your body, no matter what age you are," she told the magazine.

The veteran model and writer continued: "We all have our own truths. We all want to live according to our own truths. We want to be true to ourselves so truth is what matters more than anything. In a way, it’s more than being naked.”

For the #MeToo-inspired shoot, that took place for the first time in a studio with solely female crew, she chose to focus on one word: truth. “Although none of the other women had used it, they had the outcome of that word scribbled all over them," she shared. "One word that demanded we gather our confidence. Demand we be seen. Demand we speak. Demand we are heard. Truth.”

The "In Her Own Words" project also features Olivia Culpo, Aly Raisman, Hunter McGrady, Robyn Lawley, Ebonee Davis, Myla Dalbesio, Kate Wasley, Georgia Gibbs and Sailor Brinkley Cook who also used their skin as a canvas to show their own words of empowerment. Aly, who recently testified against former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nasar for sexual assault, bared the word ‘survivor’ across her chest, and plus-size model Hunter had words such as “worthy,” “divine,” and “fearless” written all over her body as part of the body-positivity crusade.

Christie Brinkley's youngest daughter Sailor, who signed up for the shoot, admitted she used to struggle with the pressure to be thin. For her second Swimsuit edition, the 19-year-old chose words "natural" and "artist" and "work in progress" among others. "I felt sexy obviously but I felt more emotional and it helped me accept myself."
