Portraying an icon is no easy feat for performers, but it looks like actor Diego Boneta will do justice to Latin American icon Luis Miguel, at least physically. The Mexican-American talent signed on to play Luis, for an upcoming Netflix and Telemundo series about his life, that is slated to be release in 2018. Despite the casting choice of the 27-year-old actor primarily causing ripples of controversy, due to lack of resemblance, it appears as though Diego has been undergoing serious changes in order to pull off the legendary singer’s look. Diego recently took to social media, sharing a glimpse of how he’s been physically transforming for the role.
The Scream Queens star posted a photo of him with co-star Juanpa Zurita, who plays his brother in the new project. “Brothers on and off screen!!” he wrote alongside the selfie of him and Juanpa smiling together. As evident in the pic, Diego has added golden highlights to his grown-out hair, looking much like Luis did in his youth.
In addition, the haircut looks very similar to the style the singer wore in the mid-80s, when he was only 15-years-old. Those were some of the most formative years for the Mexican superstar. For instance, it was in 1988 that he released the album Busca una mujer, which boasted the single La Incondicional. That song went on to become one of the artist’s biggest hits.

For Diego, styling his hair differently is only a minor change in comparison to a procedure he underwent for the role. A few weeks ago, the actor revealed, during an interview on the Hoy program, that he underwent tooth separation surgery to achieve one of the most notable physical characteristics of the now 47-year-old singer: a gap. This change can also be seen in his recent Instagram.
"Something incredible about my talks with him (Luis Miguel) is to realize the discipline he handles. It was very simple with me, he gave me a lot of advice and stories about the stage of his life that I am interpreting. It was a very fatherly conversation where I realized that, to be able to do this right, it was really going to require the most intense preparation I had to do for any role in my life,” the actor revealed on the broadcast.
