A-lister Julia Roberts has been to her fair share of Hollywood events, but Friday night’s amFAR Gala seemed to take the cake! The 49-year-old actress stepped out for the eighth annual incarnation of the ceremony on October 13, held at Ron Burkle’s Green Acres Estate in Beverly Hills. Despite it being “Friday the 13th,” the star-studded evening seemed incredibly lucky for Julia, as she was honored with a meaningful award, serenaded by Chris Martin of Coldplay and surrounded by her famous friends!

The Oscar-winner was reunited with fellow Oscar-winner (and good friend) Tom Hanks at the occasion. Tom, who has twice starred alongside Julia, presented his pal with the with amfAR’s “Award of Courage” in recognition of her support of the fight against AIDS. The amFAR organization raises money for AIDS research, HIV prevention and aims to provide education on treatment for the disease. By receiving the award, Julia joined a very high-profile list of previous amfAR honorees, including: Jennifer Lopez, Charlize Theron, Ryan Murphy, Scarlett Johansson, Goldie Hawn and Miley Cyrus, among others.
A highlight of the gala was when Chris Martin took to the stage to honor the movie star, by covering a song close to her heart. Using his smooth voice and guitar skills, the 40-year-old singer whipped up an acoustic rendition of Pretty Woman, which is famously known as the theme song to Julia’s 1990 hit film of the same name. At one point he growled during the song, eliciting laughter from the crowd.

The glittering guest list included: Kate Hudson, Goldie Hawn, Melanie Griffith, Diane Sawyer, Sean Penn, Victoria Justice, Sophia Bush, Heidi Klum, Connie Britton, Bethenny Frankel and Michelle Rodriguez.
