Mary-Kate Olsen and husband Olivier Sarkozy make rare appearance, sister-in-law Carla Bruni says: 'They seem so happy'

Mary-Kate Olsen enjoyed a date night in the Big Apple with her husband Olivier Sarkozy. The couple made a rare red carpet appearance on Wednesday, October 11, stepping out to attend the New York Academy of Art's 2017 Take Home A Nude Art Party and auction held at Sotheby's in New York City.

The designer channeled her inner New Yorker wearing a black dress that featured white embroidery at the hemline, while styling her hair into braided pigtails. Meanwhile Mary-Kate’s husband looked sharp in a suit and tie. The notoriously private couple held hands as they posed for photos at the event.

The pair’s outing comes after Carla Bruni, 49, discussed her husband Nicholas Sarkozy’s half-brother and famous sister-in-law’s relationship on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen earlier this week. “They seem so happy,” the former first lady of France said. "I met [Mary-Kate] at some cousin's wedding and she looked adorable and [was] very kind," Carla revealed. "And also, Olivier, he looks very happy with her. He had a lovely family and then he had a divorce.”

Olivier, 48, has two children — son Julien and daughter Margot — from his previous marriage to Charlotte Bernard. Mary-Kate married former French President Nicolas Sarkozy's half-brother in a secret intimate wedding in New York back in November of 2015. Carla noted that she and her husband were unable to attend the wedding due to “geographical reasons.”

Earlier this year, Mary-Kate opened up about her relaxing married life. "I have a husband, two step-kids and a life; I have to go home and cook dinner,” the 31-year-old told Net-a-Porter’s The Edit. “I ride horses on the weekends. You find the thing that helps you relax and if you don’t have it, you have to look for it. Or you get burned out and then you’re not productive.”
