“I don’t believe the old saying that we so often hear that we should ‘leave a better world for our children,'” Diego said in his speech delivered during a special event commemorating World Oceans Day 2017 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. “No! No, no, no. I want to live in that better world with my children. I want to see them relate to the ocean the way my father saw me do the same thing as a boy. I want to be part of that and take advantage of the time we have left and we can do that together."

The Mexican actor shares his young children with ex-wife Camila Sodi. Diego and the Mexican singer tied the knot in 2008 and split in 2013. The pair announced their separation saying, "We are and will always be family." That certainly seems to be the case. Last December, Camila supported her former husband by attending the Rouge One: A Star Wars Story premiere in Hollywood with their two kids.

Ahead of the film’s release, Diego opened up to Good Morning America about how his role in the Disney film shaped his relationship with his children. "I have the most beautiful boy and girl," he said. "Our whole [relationship] has changed since this news came out. He's a huge fan of Star Wars and when I told him, he just went crazy. Work normally used to separate us. He hated my job. He was like, 'Where are you going? Are you crazy? You're going to leave me here?' But now he's like, 'Dad, got to go!"
