Mike Tindall reveals how daughter Mia was his 'saving grace' after wife Zara Phillips's miscarriage

Mia Tindall proved to be her parents, Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall’s “saving grace” following the loss of their second child last year. The former rugby player opened up for the first time about his wife’s miscarriage in a new interview with the Sunday Times. “One thing you do learn is how many other people have had to go through the same,” the dad-of-one said. “The saving grace for us has been Mia, our daughter who is now 3.”

Mike, 38, continued, “However down we feel she will come running up in our faces. When I was playing I hardly saw her; now we can see her grow up. I can take her swimming and I can take her to Ninja Tots. You’ll never be able to see her there because she disappears in a puff of smoke.”

On Christmas Eve, less than a month after announcing the news that they were expecting their second child together, the couple revealed that the Queen’s granddaughter had tragically suffered a miscarriage. A spokesperson for the couple said, “Very sadly, Zara and Mike Tindall have lost their baby. At this difficult time, we ask that everyone respects their privacy.”

Last month the family stepped out for the Burnham Market Horse Trials and again in March for the Gatcombe Horse Trials. Mia is known for adorably stealing the show while out at events with her parents. "She's got quite a little personality on her, and we encourage that," Mike previously told Good Morning Britain. Meanwhile Zara, 36, has discussed the importance of ensuring that Mia has an active lifestyle. "We have always had sport in our lives and through our childhood," she said. "I think that really is important in every child's life to have that opportunity. I think we got it off our parents and hopefully we can pass that on to Mia.”
