It was all glamour and grins for the Dutch royal family this weekend, as they gathered to celebrate King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands 50th birthday with multiple events. Most recently, a private dinner party was held on Saturday at The Hague in The Netherlands. While it may have been a King’s day, it was a Queen who turned heads. Queen Letizia of Spain was effortlessly elegant in a scarlet Stella McCartney gown as she arrived at the birthday bash. The 44-year-old monarch was accompanied by her husband, King Felipe VI, who looked equally as polished in a tuxedo. Queen Letizia stunned in her regal floor-length gown, which she accessorized with large diamond earrings, a striking bracelet and a jewel-encrusted clutch bag.

When King Willem-Alexander turned 50 on Thursday he was met with several huge celebrations from both his country and family. First, the Netherlands marked the special ocassion, also known as "King's Day," with its citizens holding parties throughout the area. The monarch and his family spent the day at one of the celebrations in the city of Tilburg. There, thousands of people crowded wearing orange, the official color of the Dutch royals, and cheering for the king.

On Friday evening, the king and his wife Queen Maxima welcomed over 150 guests at a dinner to mark the milestone event. Royals and guests could be seen enjoying a sumptuous banquet in Amsterdam at the palace, with photographs of the king showing him to be thoroughly enjoying his party. Maxima looked every inch the royal at the party, wowing in a violet and gold dress at the happy occasion. After the dinner, the king and queen giddily opened their royal palace for 50 hours to display an exhibition that provides an overview of the Netherlands in the last 50 years. The exhibition had pieces like Queen Maxima's wedding dress, King Willem-Alexander's cradle and more of the royal family's highlights.

The evening before his 50th birthday, King Willem-Alexander had addressed the nation during an interview broadcast. The monarch paid tribute to his wife Maxima during Wednesday's speech, saying: “We are just getting started, we’ve only been together 18 years. We can be happy together for a long time. She is critical but also caring and forgiving when I am capricious. She is a very special woman, and I am very fortunate to have met her.” The royal couple shares three girls: Catherine-Amalia, Princess of Orange and Princesses Alexia and Ariane. King Willem-Alexander referred to his daughters as “his radiant ladies.”
