Nicole Kidman talks about her marriage to Tom Cruise: "I was so young when I got married'

The actress married actor, whom she met on the set of the film 'Days of Thunder' when she was 23

It's been 26 years since Nicole Kidman said “I do” to Tom Cruise, and with the maturity acquired over the years, the actress has reflected on her past decisions, like having married so young. In an interview with Red Magazine, the 49 year old Australian spoke about her marriage at such a young age and how surprising she finds it today.

"I was so young when I got married. I look back now and I'm like, 'What?'' " She told the publication. Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise got married in 1990, when she was 23 years old and he was 28. Almost four years into their marriage, they decided to add to the family and adopted Isabella and Connor. At that time, the award-winning actress was happy in her role as mother and wife, but admits that it seems incredible now that young people would acquire that level of commitment. "You look at Taylor Swift, I mean how old is she? She's 26. I had two kids by the time I was 27 and I'd been married for four years. But that's what I wanted."

After 11 years of marriage, the couple decided to divorce. The boys stayed with their father and apparently, that decision could be due to Scientology, the faith that the 54 year old actor professes. Despite the distance between them, Kidman tried to be aware of their needs. In August this year, the actress reunited with her daughter, who introduced him to her husband, Max Parker, whom she married last September. "It was very exciting for all of them, especially for Nicole" a source told Woman's Day, adding: "She was crying soon, and 'Bella' followed".

Following her split with Tom Cruise, Nicole gave love a second chance and married singer Keith Urban in 2006. The couple have two daughters: Sunday, eight, and Faith, six. About the experience of being a mother, the Oscar winner told Red Magazine: "It's a trip. There will be incredible peaks and valleys, whether you are an adoptive or biological mother. What a child needs is love."
