Next to the awards ceremony itself, the Oscars is known for its incredible red carpet styles. All the stars are dressed to the nines, in all sorts of designers from Givenchy to Vera Wang.
This year, we're excited to see how our favorite leading ladies will rock the red carpet. Here are a few of them, and what our guesses are as to their 2016 Oscar dress.

Alicia Vikander
We're putting our bets on Scandinavian style star Alicia Vikander to top all the best-dressed lists on Oscar night, especially if she opts for this Schiaparelli confection. Clean and sophisticated yet brimming with intricate detail (courtesy of a beaded bolero jacket and white-on-white floral embroidery), she'd float up to the stage like a dream if she wins Best Supporting Actress for The Danish Girl.

Cate Blanchett Carol nominee Cate is no stranger to luxurious Paris fashion house Givenchy, having been spotted on many a red carpet in the brand's show-stopping pieces. This mosaic geometric gown has a whimsical charm and unique craftsmanship that is sure to please the sophisticated star.

Charlize Theron
Playing the tough Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, Charlize didn’t take orders from anyone. We love how tough yet feminine this suit-inspired Alexis Mabille gown is, sleek and monochromatic with sexy slits running down the length of the arms. The gown is sure to be a dream on the actress's statuesque frame!

Julianne Moore
One can be sure that Julianne will be rocking her infectious smile on Oscar night, but the real question is what will she be wearing? Never one to hide from frills like feathers or sequins, the flame-haired beauty would look picture-perfect in this handcrafted Chanel number, a playful complement to her winning personality in a hue just right for her porcelain complexion.

Brie Larson
As she goes from win to win on the road to the Oscars, where she's nominated for Best Actress, Room star Brie has taken a liking to showing off those shoulders. This Guo Pei dress with a halter neck and detailed bodice is the perfect stepping stone from frontrunner to full-fledged winner (on and off the red carpet).

Jennifer Lawrence
One never knows what Jennifer will pull out on Oscar night (though we're 95% sure it will be Dior, naturally), but this Zuhair Murad dress checks off all the boxes she loves: a solid-colored number that shows off the right amount of skin (Katniss Everdeen abs, anyone?) and plays to her youthful spirit.

Kerry Washington
On a red carpet like that of the Oscars, a pop of color and some serious shimmer are always welcome. Kerry Washington would look flawless in this Giorgio Armani gown, which pairs a disco-worthy yet delicate purple skirt with a heavily bejeweled top. Definitely Olivia Pope approved!

Lady Gaga
Meow! Once the wild child of pop music, Lady Gaga has come a long way from her over-the-top meat dress and seems to prefer taking inspiration from old Hollywood these days. With the voice of a tigress, this Alberta Ferretti limited-edition design inspired by the 1920's would be the perfect piece in which to bring home the gold.

Priyanka Chopra
A newcomer to Hollywood but no stranger to Bollywood, Priyanka Chopra will be walking the Oscar red carpet for the first time this year. This stunning Giambattista Valli dress would be perfect for her big debut, with its playful fabric folding, houndstooth detailing, thigh-high slit and soft baby-pink sash.

Rachel McAdams
Having dressed in fairytale-worthy Elie Saab on multiple occasions, we wouldn't be surprised to see first-time nominee Rachel rocking one of the designer's spectacular pieces yet again (though we'd also love to see the Canadian rock a homegrown designer!). This soft purple couture gown would guarantee the blond beauty a place on every best-dressed list.

Rooney Mara
Never one to play it safe, this Yiqing Yin dress has Rooney written all over it, from the subdued hue to the bondage-like rope detailing. The pale-gray design has a quiet elegance that perfectly mirrors the fashionable Rooney herself.

Saoirse Ronan
Saoirse may be new to the role of Oscar nominee, but the Brooklyn star has already long established her distinct sense of style. With a penchant for muted pastels and simple silhouettes, this Guo Pei dress is the perfect match for the Irish beauty.
