‘One World’ concert highlights: Maluma’s acoustic serenade and more
The Global Citizen event boasted star power and healing music for us all amidst the COVID-19 pandemic
One World: Together at Home is the virtual respite we all need in these uncertain times. The two-part, eight hour fundraiser not only raised awareness and money for the fight against COVID-19, but provided an important reminder to us all: we must remain united in uncertain times. Rise Up
Combine powerhouse vocals and emotional resonance and you get Andra Day’s One World performance. The event’s premiere singer set the tone for the meaningful day as she soufully sang alongside a montage of pandemic-related images.
Introducing a hero
Heidi Klum was joined (virtually) by her Project Runway bestie Tim Gunn to introduce the show’s first frontline hero spotlight.

Dr. Anna Carvalho is one of the many healthcare workers separated from her loved ones in this time. The Vancouver ER doctor has chosen to isolate herself from her family to prevent possibly transmitting the coronavirus to her children or parents. She urges everyone to #StayHome.

Jack Black shared a hilarious video of how we can all “flatten the curve.” Although, it wasn’t the right curve.

Kesha sat at her vibrant piano and plunked out a moving performance of her song Rainbow. It was magnified by an accompanying colorful slideshow.

“What you‘re watching here is a way to give back to our heroes,” Matthew McConaughey said during his appearance, hitting home the true intention of the telecast. He said that the money has been raised so there’s no pressure to donate, merely sit back and enjoy the show.

Luis Fonsi crooned out No Me Doy Por Vencido with some six feet apart mates. “Remember to celebrate and thank healthcare and frontline essential community workers, like teachers and grocery store workers, for their selfless and brave service,” he said afterward. “For risking their lives everyday on all of our behalves.”
