Lily Rose Depp is growing up, and her father Johnny Depp is scared. “She’s blowing up,” the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales star said during his appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, May 18. “It’s amazing. It happened very quickly. She’s a woman sort of, that freaks a dad out.” Even as the face of Chanel, Johnny says that his 17-year-old daughter is super “cool” about her blossoming modeling and acting careers. “She handles it so well,” the 55-year-old said. “She’s so low to the ground and very cool about it.”

In fact, The Yoga Hosers star admitted that she is her own person, despite her famous parents. "My parents weren’t very strict,” she told Vogue in December. “They’ve always trusted me to be independent and make my own decisions. There wasn’t really anything to rebel against.” In 2007, his daughter gave her parents Johnny and his ex-partner Vanessa Paradis quite a scare when she contracted an E. coli infection that led to kidney failure at the age of seven. “I was a parent in a hospital for a few weeks,” the veteran actor revealed.

His time spent caring for his daughter in the hospital led to his visiting with sick children around the world. "The best part of being the Disney pirate, jumping into costume and making children in hospitals across the world smile," the actor, who also has a 15-year-old son Jack named after his iconic character, said. "You meet all these amazing kids who are dealing with very adult illnesses and you see this incredible courage on their faces. It’s the parents who are just falling apart, and I don’t break character. I try to do as much stupid stuff as I can.”
